An aspect of my job that I truly love is providing psychotherapy to fellow therapists, healthcare professionals and other individuals whose careers are centered upon helping people in vulnerable positions.
Physicians, nurses, therapists, firefighters, police officers, and attorneys have unique pressures--some of which are life-and-death; some of which are due to the red tape of workplace bureaucracy. Such professionals are vulnerable to vicarious trauma, survivors' guilt, complex ethical decision-making, demoralization, and imposter syndrome.
If this describes you, remember that taking care of yourself is integral to caring for others who come to you for assistance. You deserve a confidential space outside of work to discuss the duress inherent in the truly meaningful career you've chosen.
